URGENT – WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILMINGTON OH
1212 PM EST SUN JAN 5 2014

…ACCUMULATING SNOW EXPECTED…
…BRUTALLY COLD WIND CHILL TO FOLLOW MONDAY INTO TUESDAY…

.A WINTER STORM WILL MOVE ACROSS THE OHIO VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. ARCTIC AIR MOVING IN BEHIND THE STORM WILL HAVE THE COLDEST TEMPERATURES SEEN IN THE OHIO VALLEY FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS. ANY ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL WILL END BY MIDNIGHT AS THE ARCTIC AIR ENTERS.

…WIND CHILL WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM MONDAY TO 5 PM EST TUESDAY…
…WINTER STORM WARNING IS CANCELLED…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 9 AM EST MONDAY. THE WINTER STORM WARNING HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

* HAZARD TYPES…SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL OCCUR TONIGHT. IN ADDITION…A QUICK DROP IN TEMPERATURES WILL CAUSE ANY STANDING WATER TO RAPIDLY FREEZE. BITTER COLD WIND CHILL READINGS WILL OCCUR MONDAY INTO TUESDAY.

* ACCUMULATIONS…SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 1 TO 3 INCHES IS EXPECTED.

* TIMING…RAIN WILL OVERSPREAD THE REGION TODAY AND CHANGE TO SNOW THIS EVENING. ANY ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL END BY MIDNIGHT…BUT SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS IN STRONG WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO REDUCE VISIBILITY. RAPIDLY FALLING TEMPERATURES WILL FREEZE ANY WET SURFACES TONIGHT. ARCTIC AIR WILL SETTLE OVER THE REGION MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY.

* WINDS…WEST 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH.

* WIND CHILL READINGS…AS LOW AS 43 BELOW.

* IMPACTS…HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED DUE TO REDUCED VISIBILITIES…SNOW ACCUMULATIONS…BLOWING SNOW AND RAPID FREEZING OF WET ROADS. THE FRIGID CONDITIONS WILL BE DANGEROUS TO THOSE VENTURING OUTSIDE. PROLONGED EXPOSURE MAY CAUSE FROSTBITE.
